His father, Camille, visited, and also painted the area. Members
of the family still live at The Brook, the house set back from
Stamford Brook Road, which Lucien leased. W B Yeats grew up here.
17th-century maps show evidence of the Brook, which used to flow
into the moat surrounding the mansion in Ravenscourt Park, which
was bombed and destroyed during World War II. Made up of three
small brooks that converged east of Ravenscourt Park, Stamford
Brook flowed south to The Creek in Hammersmith and into the Thames.
Now the streams are all underground sewers – not nearly
as romantic.
