I don’t think of myself as an ardent Royalist, and yet I can’t help coming over all wistful when it comes to Kate Middleton’s (sorry, ‘Windsor’) hair, the Queen’s hats (who knew there were so many shades of pastel?), out of control Corgis and golden coaches. So not a Royalist at all, then.

And I defy anyone to resist this new Diamond Jubilee, The Royals – A Dress-Up Dolly Book. It’s by Penguin and in a shop near you on the 5th April.

I also think Scarlett Willow’s Diamond Jubilee collection is gorgeous and a far cry from the usual naff mugs. Coasters, presented in a smart red envelope, cost £6.20 each (or £23.60 in a ribboned gift box) and shatterproof glass platters are available in the same design for £29.50.

A slightly more serious souvenir is Ladybird’sH M Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee. It charts her 60-year reign from early childhood to coronation, with details of her family life, and the way she has shaped the modern monarchy. It’s published by Penguin in May.

Mug-wise, the ever reliable Emma Bridgewater’s 60 Years a Queen version should raise a smile at teatime, albeit a fairly expensive one because the mug costs £24.95. The range includes cheaper teatowels and biscuit tins, so I’ll probably invest in one of those.
