Costa Rica: Fact File

Getting around: The infrastructure is relatively good and self-drive is definitely an option though you will need a 4x4. That said, the internal flight network is excellent. If you are a family group, consider the cost of hiring a small plane.

East and West: The country is separated into Caribbean and Pacific by the Continental Divide. The Osa Peninsula on the Pacific coast is on our wish list: whale watching, jungle and surf.

Cost: Costa Rica is not cheap. Prices for food, drinks and excursions are comparable to Europe.

Operators: A number of the operators listed in the Travel Directory under Adventure Specialists include Costa Rica in their programmes. Activities Abroad and Bushbaby Travel are particularly recommended for their Costa Rica offerings.
