Brain-child of ex-American Express executive, Karen Hastings, comes a new exclusive private members club and spa for mums and mums-to-be in the Putney Riverside Quarter. We sent Suzie Skipper to check it out. ‘Meeting other mums when you have your first baby can be tricky. I remember taking my baby to a music class in some dusty church hall and feeling really out of place. The great thing about the Cupcake concept is that it offers you a ready-made community in a lovely place. There is an Ofsted-registered crèche for babies and children from 4 weeks to 5 years (£4/hour), while you join an ante or post-natal class, or join in regular ‘launching your own business’ seminars. I had a fantastic massage – on a bed covered by heated water pillows, followed by a 15-minute nap in the ‘Senzori Sleep Pod’. There is also a Mumcierge service to help you source anything from a water birth to a nanny but then if I was a member I probably wouldn’t want to go back to work.’ Membership is not cheap at £149/month plus a £250 joining fee (which includes various goodies) but then this covers mum, dad and children. Cupcake plans to open 20 sites in Greater London, including one in Wimbledon next year.
