Coniglio (Bunny in Italian). The white one won hands down n the white chocolate tasting (just like a Milky Bar); milk and plain good too. £5.95 each from Carluccio’s.

For best value, novelty and taste combined the prize has to go to Sainbury’s. These bags of hollow eggs (£5) make a lovely present although chocolate not so great, whilst the Belgian Chocolate eggs
(£2 small; £5 large) were delicious.

Milk chocolate egg in cute egg cup. Inside the very delicate layer of milk chocolate are milk chooclate ‘shots’. Perfect for discerning tastebuds who don’t want too much. From Melt £9.50. I have to mention their totally sublime plain egg with dried raspberries, strawberries, cocoa nibs and cardomom.
Great fun, delicious and very reasonable. Tiddly Pots £6 from Hotel Chocolat stores and hotelchocolat.co.uk
Lindt chocolate is hard to beat. This year’s Bugs and Bees are crispy rice covered in chocolate, which I thought were delicious but some kids not so sure. A safer bet is the mini bars of chocolate in Heads and Toes. £2.49 each.
Disappointing packaging from Green & Blacks. The chocolate is delicious (the butterscotch particularly yummy), perfect for a treasure hunt on Easter Day. £2.99 each.

Full marks for ingenuity with these Boiled Eggs, which come in two sizes (£17.99 and £27.99).
With its delicious plain chocolate, it is one for all to admire and adults to eat. Artisan Du Chocolat
(Lower Sloane St,Westbourne Grove, Selfridges and Borough Market) and artisanduchocolat.com

Beautiful packaging and delicious chocolate in lots of different flavours.
Prestat Easter Eggs in Milk Chocolate, Ginger, Dark Chocolate and Marc de Champagne. £22
Rococo has the most sense of humour. I love the Workaholic Hen bag of hen and milk chocolate eggs (£3.95). This painted solid plain egg in eggcup (£12.50) is lovely but too bitter for kids' tastes.
Rococo Chocolates rococochocolates.com and shops in Motcomb St, King’s Rd and Marylebone High St.
This is my favourite milk chocolate: rich and creamy. Comes in dark and white chocolate too. Duckling with 6 eggs £7.95 gallerchocolates.co.uk
This is a traditional egg box with 6 hollow eggs made from radically flavoured chocolate, including milk chocolate with chilli and lime and dark chocolate with orange and geranium.
The Emperor Egg Box from Montezumas in Kingston and Spitalfields Market and online at montezumas.co.uk
The Alchemist's Cow (from holefoods) is good if you want to give your child an organic egg but it wasn't our favourite. £6.99
