DIY Parties

The most important thing to remember is to have a plan A, and then some back-up games and ideas. A summer afternoon tea party with the doors open to the garden is perfect for three to seven year olds. Or, in the winter, you can clear one room and hold all the games in here. Best to confine to one area of your home. Decorate the space with bunting and balloons. Make sure the birthday child remains the centre of attention.

SOME TIPS
Have plenty of help It is tempting to thing ‘How hard can it be
to control a few children?” but you want to enjoy the party too.
Plan more games than you think you need Some will work
better with a particular dynamic of children than others.
Intersperse noisy games with quieter ones.
Have a fancy dress competition. It’s a great ice breaker.
Prizes Kids love to win prizes for their efforts. Just a token, it is all about
the winning.

Some of our fave games

For younger children:

Pin the tail on the donkey blindfolded. Use blue tac instead of drawing pins.

Pass the parcel.

Grandmother’s footsteps.

A treasure hunt. Pair the children up and give them a basket to share to collect their goodies: hide chocolate coins around the garden.

Musical Bumps and Musical Statues Always a winner.

Singing and acting out nursery rhymes.

For older children:

The Chocolate Game Roll a 6 and put on the hat, scarf and gloves and cut a square of chocolate with a knife and fork before the next child shouts SIX!

Pass The Orange Stand in two lines and pass an orange down the line to the front without using your hands.

Musical Chairs

Wink Murder

Piñatas Take turns to smash the piñata and release the sweets. Most pinata come empty so you need to fill with your own.

Donut Eating Hang ringed donuts onto a string and kids try to eat theirs first with their hands behind their backs.
