Educational role play meets theme park in global brand Kidzania's first UK outpost

a&u review

"From the moment you 'check in' at the British Airways desk, are equipped with tags and boarding passes and enter the Zidzania kingdom, it is a parallel world like no other.

A mini-city built for kids, your first stop is the Bank of Kidzania to get your bank account set up. It is Britain's first 'reality theme park' where the children can 'earn' money in a virtual city centre.

There are shops and factories to work in, for money (albeit special Kidzania money), a power plant, fire station, dentist, smoothie factory, plane cockpits, radio stations and banks. And the key thing is, they are high street names children will recognise: Innocent, H&M, Renault, Cadburys.... Audition to be a part of the shows that are put on in the theatre. Learn to be a puppeteer, dance, sing, walk a catwalk. You name it. It's real life, but Kidzania style. And if that all gets too much kids'  can even go on holiday by checking into a luxury mini Dorsett hotel. On the hour, every hour the smiley staff break into song, singing, clapping and getting into the groove.

It's a little bit 'Everything is Awesome', all slightly overwhelming for a 20th century adult, but the kids seem to be mad for it.

Although the main 'work' areas are best suited for ages 4–14, there are some nice activities for under 3's - an early learning kindergarten, a 'house' with bathroom that is an inflatable water bed and 'bedroom' that is a themed soft-play area. But they also cater for tinies with a designated 'quiet area' for mums with babies where there are stories and gentle play. Sessions last up to 4 hours and cost £28 for children and £16.50 for adults. Over 7's can be left in the 'city' while parents go out to shop but the coffee and snacks there are delicious so parents also encouraged to stay, use the WiFi and let the kids roam the world while you sit and catch up on some emails."
