‘You’re never too old for hopes and dreams… there’s always time for plans and schemes.’

When Warple moves into a small fishing village by the seaside, he discovers his neighbour, Hilda, looking out towards the horizon each night, searching for a glimpse of her long-lost husband. When loneliness, curiosity and a far-off flickering light brings them together, the two elderly friends embark on a surprising journey to reconcile their pasts and find what might lie within their futures.

Using music, puppetry and film, the company work together to create enchanting animation live on stage.

a&u review

"The Old Vic is a wonderful place to go with children, and the groups of school children piling into the theatre yesterday to watch their new show The Missing Light were quivering with anticipation. The production by Mark Arends for Make, Mend & Do is a totally new and at the same time beautifully old-fashioned form of theatre. It is essentially a love story but also a story about old age and friendship.
Told through an ingenious series of projection and puppet scenes the wordless story gently unfolds. The atmosphere created is that from the era of silent movies but what it is especially engaging for children is being able to see how the process happens.
It is 35 minutes of touching simplicity and my 9 year old reviewers, (both boys) were enchanted. An utterly charming piece of theatre." Reviewed by Claire Gill
