Robots: The 500 year quest to make machines human

A fascinating new Robots exhibition opens at the Science Musuem this week, prepare to be AMAZED!

With over 100 robots on display, including 16 working models, this exhibition hosts the greatest collection of humanoid robots ever displayed all in one place.

As you enter the exhibition you are greeted by an eerily life-like animatronic baby specially commissioned for this exhibition. To start with the baby moves its legs rather gently but then slowly she wakes up moving her arms, opening her eyes, sneezes and looks straight at you, rather unnerving in some ways but utterly life-like.

Set in five different time zones the exhibition walks you through 500 years of robotic technology starting with a 16th century robotic monk then onto with a stunning 250 year old solid silver clockwork swan and ending with a room jam-packed with full-size moving, mechanical interactive robots.

Real highlights for us were Pepper the humanoid companion who communicates with you through voice and touch, Zeno R25  a sweet little expressive robot who replicates your facial expressions and RoboThespian a full-size robotic actor with hugely life-like eyes.

We also rather loved the old fashioned tin robots, look out for Eric the first British robot and little jug eared George created from scrap aluminium.

Don't miss this one!
