Our Verdict.....................

"Having driven an hour with 3 rather impatient children and a couple of wrong turnings to boot, the pretty high street of Great Missenden was a welcome sight. I was a little worried we might take another wrong turn and miss the museum but I need not have been, as you simply can¹t miss it. Nestled right in the middle of the high street, the museum is painted a surprising pale violet and the enormous shadow of the BFG strides across it. ³ This is a sparky place ³ is written on the wall as you enter and it certainly is. It is a place that feeds the imagination and leaves you with a spring in your step a smile on your face.

With half term upon us I had booked my eldest son Jack aged 9 on one of the museums short animation work shops. A young student studying animation heldcourt for 1hr and Jack re-appeared, beaming clutching various plasticine animals that they had made and determined to follow in the foot steps of Nick Parks and create the next Wallace and Grommit.

While Jack was modelling away I discovered the museum with my 4 year old and 1 year old. The museum is small but perfectly formed. There is a wall smelling of chocolate, when you sit on a bench you suddenly realise it¹s the enormous crocodile. Creative activities galore. And even the room in the little hut where the great man wrote his stories has been recreated, so you can actually sit in Roald Dahls chair and imagine.

Pictures and audio visuals of Roald Dahl are everywhere, a wonderous café where you can order fizzy lifting drinks and snozcumber sandwiches. A fantastic shop with wonderful books as well as carefully selected jokes andgames, bouncy eye balls, pads of the yellow paper Roald Dahl always wrote on and his type of pencil. They even have a black board painted door for the child or adult to write suggestions on books they don¹t have but you think other children would enjoy.

A wonderful fantastic stupendous place that we will definitely revisit time and again. Worth travelling a lot longer than an hour for."
