For Your Eyes Only: Ian Fleming and James Bond
opens 17 April.
Tickets: £8 adults, £4 children.
Did Ian Fleming's inspiration for James Bond come from his wartime
experience in naval intelligence? It is a nice thought, the answer to which
is almost certainly no, but the tales of daring strategic operations -
recounted in a suitably crackled military voice over a map of Europe circa
1943 - are one of the highlights of the Imperial War Museum's celebration of
the centenary of Fleming's birth. The kids also enjoyed looking at some of
the props from the films and I liked the first editions of the books and
some fab posters. Best for kids old enough to be into the films - and
Bond-mad parents. Give the uninspiring trail (in association with Puffin's
latest Young Bond title) a miss. DO go down to the basement and visit the
WW1 and WW2 displays. Museum learning at it absolute best, the trenches
experience is fantastic.
