Bring a picnic for a summer of fun with free outdoor family activities. Events run from 1–4pm unless otherwise stated. No booking required.
Puppet Fun 1 Aug, Ages 3+
Chicken Licken (Dynamic New Animation) 1.15pm, 2.30pm Trilogy of classic tales from the Ladybird books, Chicken Licken, The Little Red Hen and The Fox and the Hen. Shadow and rod puppetry.
Chicken Licken puppet making 1–4pm Drop in to make your own Chicken Licken shadow puppet.
Puppet tour 2pm Guided tour of the Museum’s puppet collection.
Family Olympics 15 August
How fit is your family? Find out by taking part in a hilarious mini-Olympics. The family with the most points at the end of the day wins a prize. Design your own Olympic medal at the Art Smarts table.
Races include: Water buckets, Push-a-Ping-Pong-Ball-With-Your-Nose, Speed Dressing, Hula Hoop competition.
Teddy Bears Picnic 22 Aug, 12–4pm
Dress up your teddy and bring him along for a picnic lunch on the Museum’s grounds! Enjoy balloon animals and magic. Meet Rupert Bear. Follow our Teddy Bear trail. Make a teddy bear mask. Enter your bear in the Best Dressed Bear contest (at 3.30pm).
Kids Carnival 29 Aug
Bop to the lively rhythms of the steel pan drums by Caribé Steel. Make a colourful Carnival headdress and join our procession through the Museum at 3.30pm.
Summer Festival 3 Aug, 11.30am–4.30pm
Back by popular demand, the Museum grounds will be humming with the sounds of live music, street performers, rickshaw rides, face painting, food stalls, children’s activities and games. Don’t miss it!
