John Hegley's Hammersmith Hanky Party

12 July 10am–4.30pm. Free. Tickets available on the day.

Following last year¹s success, the Lyric hosts another smashing SummerParty: a jam-packed day of interactive shows and events for families, happening in and around the Lyric Hammersmith.

John Hegley¹s Hammersmith Hanky Party will feature an exciting line-up of some of the country¹s mostinventive companies and artists, including Tall Stories (The Gruffalo, TheSnow Dragon and Monster Hits), Lyngo (Circus Minimus), Cartoon de Salvo (TheRatcatcher of Hamlin, Hard Hearted Hannah and Other Stories), Hegley¹s band The Popticians, Andrew Bailey and Randolph the Remarkable. The day will be based on images and motifs of the British summer, tied together with a big handkerchief.

There will be Morris Men, deckchairs, hanky hats, hanky bunting and sand pits. We will also host The Great Hankyor Tissue Issue with Friends of The Earth investigating environmental sustainability.  All the ingredients for a fantastic theatrical day out with Hegley¹s Habsurdist Hanky theme!

Free shows:

John Hegley & the Popticians John Hegley¹s band, The Popticians, will perform twice in the main housealong with Randolph the Remarkable, who will achieve feats of great skill involving fire and a bowl of lukewarm water and Andrew Bailey will appear with his Hanky of truce. Both shows will also feature a guest appearance from a larger than life virtual virtuoso hanky dancer!

How The Giraffe Got His Neck A genius scientist and an eccentric storyteller bring us their fantastic and almost entirely contradictory versions of how amazing animals came to be and how others came not to be.  Stories, silliness and a very confused giraffe combine in this ridiculous new show for 4s and up - Created by TallStories.

Egg & Spoon Percy and April take you from summer to Winter and back to Spring again in this multisensory, highly interactive experience with something for everyone. You can relax on our cushions and watch the birds fly in the blue sky or get stuck in with making it snow and blowing the leaves away. Fore veryone aged 3 and up. Created by Lyngo Theatre.

Dick Whittington Dick Whittington is wandering through the party this year and gathering anaudience to tell improvised stories from his travels. These will be inspired from what he discovers in hanky knapsack. Created by Steve Tiplady.
