Our creative and exciting Family Programme includes free Saturday workshops for 6-12 year olds and their families, ‘studio’ days for teenagers, and free holiday drop-ins, inspired by all that Somerset House has to offer. Tickets for Saturday workshops are available from 13.00 in the Seamen’s Hall on the day, and are allocated on a first come, first served basis. For children 6-12 years,accompanied by an adult.

Explore the many different sculptures at Somerset House; of people, mythical beasts and natural forms, find out their purpose, and then design your own public sculpture to go in our miniature sculpture park.

Taking inspiration from the many portraits of family and friends in The Courtauld Institute, explore how to paint a portrait of someone very special to you.

Highways and waterways
To celebrate the Thames Festival join us in a special watery workshop looking at how Somerset House and the river are linked by history, and make a ‘Royal’ barge and barge house.

Discover the hidden history of Somerset House, taking a tour of some of our special spaces, and then make your very own secret chamber.

The silent character
Invent a story based on a movie theme, which features an object (The ‘silent character’) crucial to the plot. Design you own set for this special object telling its story, in this workshop inspired by the MacGuffin Library in the Wouldn’t it be Nice exhibition, Embankment Galleries.
