Inspired by the film Little Women (yes, it is as good as everyone says it is), here are five things the a&u team is resolving to do this year:
1. Write things down
Get those thoughts down on paper, not 'to do' lists, but ideas, thoughts, musings. It's meant to be very good for the soul and you never know where it might lead! There's a winter sale on moleskin books which are simply a joy to have around.
2. Read more poetry
It's official, poetry is the way to better mind, body and soul. Accessible from each and any direction we should be learning poems, reading poems and writing them too. Anthologies are a good way to dip in, Allie Esiri's A Poem for Every Day of the Year and A Poem for Every Night of the Year are wonderful places to start.
3. Make do and MEND rather than buy new
We are all resolving to search somewhere in our past for a needle and thread and in the style of Marmie from Little Women or dare I say it Fraulein Maria in The Sound Of Music you don't need to buy new things, rather add a bit of something to an old skirt or jumper. It's surprising what a cut out star stitched over a hole in a jumper does for both your wallet and your sense of satisfaction.

4. Eat seasonally
This one is key, back to basics, good for the environment, ourselves and a sense of hunkering down for the winter. Bring on the beetroot. There are masses of great websites and nutritionists to help out. We found a seasonal food chart which is helpful here, and The Nature Doc has some fab advice as does Lizzie Loves Healthy.
5. Play more games
We all must have received at least one new board game or family game this Christmas. Don't just put it to the back of the cupboard for a rainy day. Play it. They're really fun. We particularly loved Pass the Bomb, Linkee (always a winner), Pass the Pigs, and never forget the power in a simple game of cards.
