World Book Day 2019

The annual celebration of reading is back for another year. We have some lovely interviews with Rob Biddulph, Abi Elphinstone, Lauren Child and Cressida Cowell. Don't forget to pick up one of Rob's brilliant book marks along with your £1 book tokens.

The World Book Day website is completely fantastic with brilliant resources, games, book recommendations, latest news of events on the day, 'the imagination channel' with masterclasses from authors and illustrators and truly masses more.

'Share a Story' is the theme at the heart of the World Book Day campaign, encouraging parents to go beyond the dressing up to read and share stories with their children for ten minutes every day. Reading together anywhere, anytime for just ten minutes a day is the best thing you can do.

Tune in to a Puffin Virtually Live webcast which runs from 7am on 7th March featuring Chris Riddell.

Matilda at 30 opens at the Roald Dahl Museum on the 7th March to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the publication of Roald Dahl’s much-loved story about a brave little girl who loves books and hates bullies. Quentin Blake was asked to imagine what Matilda would have become as an adult. Wrestling champion, world traveller, astrophysicist?

He has imagined eight new versions of a grown-up Matilda, each inspired by one of the extraordinary talents she displays in the story.  Alongside these, will be prints of the original Matilda illustrations from the book.

Matilda is a heroine for our time showing us that no matter how small and powerless you feel, it’s possible to stand up for what you believe in, change your circumstances for the better and write your own story!
