Deal and Sandwich are renowned for their golf courses and with such a long coastline, there are many sailing clubs on both coasts; several of the seaside towns including Folkestone, Margate and Herne Bay have retained their seaside amusements.
The countryside has miles upon miles of well signposted walking and bridle paths. Horse riding is a favourite activity with many riding stables for all abilities and the East Kent Hunt Pony Club provides opportunities to compete. The quiet lanes along the top of the Downs offer good and not too strenuous cycling. There is a small ski slope in Folkestone and a bigger one further away at Chatham
With the area having played such a big part in England’s history, Canterbury Cathedral, Dover Castle and many other ancient monuments offer very varied days out. A new shopping centre has been built near Margate at Westwood Cross, go to Canterbury for boutiques and there is a factory outlet at Ashford.
