Moving Out: The Weald of Kent

Unspoilt countryside, world famous gardens, relatively affordable houses and outstanding schools, what’s not to love about the garden of England? Henrietta Graham-Campbell extols the virtues of life in the Weald. Illustrations by Emily Faccini.

Where to Live

The warmest climate in the country offers an idyllic pastoral landscape with pretty villages, sophisticated towns and Camber Sands for the beach.

The north of the Weald is serviced by the Ashford line. This passes through Headcorn (1 hr, 10mins to Charing Cross), Staplehurst and Tonbridge (fast trains in 45mins).

House Prices

A 3-bed village house costs £500,000+. 4-bed detached house in a popular village £700,000+. A small farmhouse with out buildings and 10 acres expect to pay £1.3m+. A Georgian detached town house in Tunbridge Wells can start from £2m+.
