The In Crowd

IBIZA is Calypso's spiritual home...

.... her youth may have been spent beneath a disco ball on the other side of the island but these days it’s all about the chill. Mornings are spent meditating by the pool whilst little Jacobi and Athena are learning how to make vegan sashimi rolls. By sunset she’s so in the zone she’s doing yoga on a paddleboard, whilst mentally signaling her husband to take a photo. He’s obliviously sipping a beer. Doesn’t he realise she’s been practising all year at The Life Centre for this moment? Eventually he gets the message and takes the shot. With a little cropping and a lter it’s good to go. She can’t post it until 7pm of course, she’s on a digital detox. Not a full one, that would be too extreme, and she’s a laid-back cat. Screen time is so detrimental to family bonding but it’s nice to stay connected. Especially when you’ve just had your ‘tousled beach hair’ blow dry at the hotel’s own John Freida bar.

Across the pond, Hank is swinging duffle bags for their Fourth July weekend in NANTUCKET...

... twins Billy and Bonnie bounce down the steps of the brownstone, Mom Gaby right behind with long legs, a swinging ponytail and four tennis racquets tucked beneath her arm. The entire family is wearing matching shorts, white lace-up sneakers and their beloved ACK hoodies. They’re off to the Grey Lady of Nantucket for four days of good old-fashioned fun! The White Elephant is the place to stay; they take a family suite which comes with its own porch and rocker where Grandpa sits to read his paper, or rather his iPad. Plus, it’s just a stone’s throw from Main Street and the kids’ favourite ice cream parlour, The Juice Bar. If it’s rainy there’s Nantucket Bookworks for storytime, and the Whaling Museum just up the road. Luckily this weekend the weatherman’s promised them non-stop sunshine; the whole family is getting together at Cisco Brewery where there’ll be spicy oysters and lobster rolls on tap.

PR guru Pandora has just discovered the PELIGONI CLUB...

... a tip-off from a tennis pal at the Hurlingham. And isn’t it just heaven? She can laze by the pool with her girlfriends whilst a gorgeously tanned public school gappy called Lucas brings little plates of tzatziki and bottles of very pale rosé on ice. She hasn’t seen the teenagers all week but she knows they’re happy; thanks
to the hunky boat boys, Poppy has nally committed to learning to sail and George has barely stepped away from his ‘crew’ at the ping pong table. The Shearer family who own the place are perfectly charming and wander about, always on hand. Just this morning Pandora splashed out on a new Pippa Holt kaftan from
Rory Shearer’s on-site boho-chic boutique. Maybe it will do for the obligatory party; this week’s theme is Baywatch.

Emma's parents snapped up a villa on VALE DE LOBO'S 15th green...

Vale de Lobo

... when she was still a teenager. Now her boys are strapping teens themselves, off on the golf course with Roger most days, so nally she gets some time to op by the pool. Not that she ops much. She was junior tennis champion for Bucks for goodness sake and the ladder at the Vale de Lobo Tennis Academy is taken very seriously. She comes down with a bunch of girlfriends when theboys are safely back at school/uni and things get pretty competitive. But in the holidays, it’s really all about the boys. The Smith-Richardsons are staying and their girls have turned into goddesses, there’s bound to be some action at Gecko’s tonight. She needs to book BJ’s on the beach for lunch – being a regular doesn’t guarantee a table anymore. Clams, vino verde, a sing-a-long, that should break the ice between gauche teens.

Margaret has turned off the A12 to ALDEBURGH...

...her hair is a mess. She’s been on a tight deadline for her latest script and has scarcely had time to look up from the page before the holidays are upon her. The car is full of busy children arguing in the back; she takes a bite from a soggy sandwich, maybe that hummus had gone off? It’s de nitely got a tang. Her dress is covered in dog hair. Still, they’re on their way. She loves the familiarity of it all, the idyllic pastel house with its rambling yellow rose on Cragg Path, just next door to Tom Hiddleston’s Mum’s place. Maybe she’ll ask him to star in her next BBC adaption, with any luck she’ll spot him in the queue for sh and chips. She winds down the window and inhales the familiar salty air. Who needs white sand when you’ve got crashing waves, wind and a month of stomping up and down the shingle.

Charlotte has been coming to ROCK since she was a little girl...

Rock family

... but this year she has drawn the line at yet another week in the cottage her mother-in-law has taken since Henry was tiny, so they are staying at the St Enodoc. In truth she is feeling a bit guilty. There are so many wagging tails outside The Oyster Catcher she can’t see which is hers. She scans the terrace; eventually she sets eyes on Lupo who is having his ears pulled by Walter’s friend Tarquin. They’ve spent the morning at Polzeath bodyboarding. David Cam in ‘holiday-mode’ is perched on the wall with a pint of Doom Bar. He’s still wearing his wetsuit peeled down to the waist; Charlotte remembers their teenage encounter on Daymer Bay. She quickly rounds up her gang and decides it’s lunchtime: Cornish pasties from Chough’s!
