Annie meets Marie Chantal to discuss her exciting new collaboration with Marks & Spencer.
Marie lives in London with her 5 children (4 boys and eldest daughter, Olympia) and is married to Prince Palvos of Greece. When we interviewed Marie Chantal a few years ago she told us the surprising revelation that rollercoasters were her idea of a great family outing...this has since changed after her last ride left her sick for 24 hours!
Why Marks & Spencer and why now? Is this your first collaboration?
They approached me. I have loved designed the first collection and look forward to the following 4 seasons.
How has your vision of kids' fashion developed over the years?
Small changes, for example my smock dresses might now be collarless to give it a less traditional feel. I want the designs to be more contemporary but with a nostalgic feel.
What is your most favourite type of fabirc?
Has to be cotton!
Most precious memory from childhood?
Growing up in Hong Kong was a lovely time. I have vivid memories of the cotton-puff clouds in the sky everyday, there was no pollution back then.
When you're not busy designing how do you spend your time?
I love reading and I am a complete series addict. I'm currently hooked on Stranger Things and It Happens.
What's been the biggest influence on your life?
Family. My father's tremendous work ethic inspired me. He would come home from work everyday to have lunch with us, no matter how busy his day was.
Hong Kong, New York and London.
In the countryside with our dogs.
Favourite restaurant to take the kids to?
We love Dim Sum. Our new favourite is Yauatcha in Soho.
Favourite museum or gallery in London?
The Royal Academy of Arts.
Plans for New Year?
We have everyone over for Christmas so by New Year I just plan to collapse and chill out!
