Halloween High Jinks

We like the sound of the pumpkin festival at Lower Mill Estate in the Cotswolds. Spend a few hours in a witch’s hat tepee crafting your spooky vegetable and enjoy face painting and Halloween crafts. In the evening guests will be invited to toast marshmallows on the fire pits, sip on hot drinks and admire their creations floating on the lagoon. Choose from a range of properties sleeping 4–12.

Eco opening in South Africa

The top, top end of luxury eco travel has a new addition, with the opening of the first camp at Lepogo Lodges in the Lapalala Wilderness Reserve in South Africa later this month. Family-owned and operated, the project has been developed as part of a life-long dream to create a sustainable conservation legacy in Africa, with 100% of any financial gains re-invested back into the reserve for the benefit of wildlife, conservation and the local community. Plus it is the first luxury camp in Africa to offset the carbon footprint of every visiting guest, from the time they leave their home to the moment they return. It is eye-wateringly expensive but there are a range of introductory offers.

The Somerset town of Bruton is achingly fashionable. And last week saw the opening of the gorgeous-looking Newt Hotel. 13 rooms in the lovely Georgian manor and more in the old stable yard, including a bedroom in a very authentic-looking horse box! Fabulous gardens, a spa, garden-to-table restaurant, and it genuinely welcomes children. We cannot wait!

Rooms from £320 a night b&b.
