10 Piggy Things we Love

In celebration of the Chinese Year of the Pig we have chosen 10 of our favourite piggy things, starting with the dearest of them all:

1. Piglet

Piglet needs no introduction other than something from A.A. Milne in Winnie the Pooh: "Piglet is so small that he slips into a pocket, where it is very comfortable to feel him when you are not quite sure whether twice seven is twelve or twenty-two.”

2. Babe

Babe the Pig's first incarnation was in Dick King-Smith's novel The Sheep Pig, he was immortalised on film in 1995 and in a further sequel Babe: Pig in the City

3. Wilbur

Wilbur also comes from literary heritage and made the jump successfully onto silver screen. Both versions are wonderful, but the book by EH White is right up there with the top ten books of all time.

4. Pigling Bland

Pigling Bland, published in 1913, the year Beatrix Potter was married and settling into domestic farm life. We love his search for adventure and how things change when he finds his soul mate.

5. Percy Pig

Percy Pigs have taken on a life of their own from when they were first introduced to us by M&S almost 30 years ago.

6. Tirpitz

Tirpitz the Pig, has an important place in history when in 14 March 1915 a sailor on HMS Glasgow jumped overboard to save the animal who then became a mascot on the ship. He is now housed in the Imperial War Museum.

7. Pass the Pigs

Pass the Pigs - simply the BEST game to take on holiday

8. Odd Farm Park

These delightful little piggies will be snuffling around Odds Farm in Buckinghamshire just in time for half term.

9. Miss Piggy

We fear this might be showing our age somewhat, but how could we not include the inimitable glamour of The Muppet Show queen.

10. The Dishoom Bacon Sandwich

Lastly, we hope it isn't too cruel to include this... a simply scrumptious Indian take on the (whisper) Bacon Sandwich from Dishoom.
