Lockdown: Week 1

1. Fitness

Three littles (in different houses) aged 2, 6 and 9 tuned in for the Joe Wicks 9am PE slot. Luna (2) has been doing it out in the garden. The general verdict: fun, upbeat and different difficulty levels so works for variety of ages (though primary best). A bit too much time with Joe doing shout outs but we reckon that will slow down as he gets into the groove.

Strictly's brilliant Oti Mabuse is running #dancewithOti facebook sessions at 11.30am daily. This morning was Mary Poppins and we loved it.

The English National Ballet have some amazing online masterclasses with Tamara Rojo but they are for professional dancers (worth a look if you like ballet) and are developing a programme for younger children. Come on Pineapple and Karen Hardy!

We will be definitely be signing up to the Sadler's Wells Digital Stage which starts its programme of free online Family Dance Workshops for ages 2–6 on 1 April. Click here for details.

Bella (8) joined her Saturday street dance class remotely at the weekend which was great (and mum joined in as no one could see). Many of the smaller dance classes are not running over the holidays. One of our faves, Funky Moves is starting new online dance classes though, running 30 March-5 Apr. All classes will be available on Zoom and they are priced £5 each. They have a great selection of styles you can pick from such as Mini Movers for little ones, Funky Ballet or Dance Fitness. We would love to hear of any more that are doing online sessions. Please let us know if your local fave is continuing online.

2. Getting Creative

Hurrah for Maggie & Rose who have opened online classes for free. Register and you’ll receive a daily email update with details of the next day’s scheduled classes alongside a list of resources or materials that you can use to follow along. Subscribe to their YouTube channel to join the class from 10.30am each day once it goes live.

This morning it was Messy Masters art class, exploring the work of Van Gogh and there is Story Time at 3pm. Register online.

With Easter coming up, you can get them going on crafting with a purpose. Currently Baker Ross is still delivering (5–7 days) and has heaps of good value supplies, craft ideas and instructions. Pipe cleaner daffs anyone?

Boden Mini Missions

Rather loving the children's activities that Boden have come up with. There are six Mini Missions to download from making a puppet theatre to your own Make and Discover Activity book. Click here.

3. Inspired by Heroes

steve backshall ben fogle

There were a few technical hitches with both Steve Backshall's Live Q&A #SteveBackshallWildlifeChat and Ben Fogle's live insta Adventure Chat but our junior fans are not going to get a few connection issues get them down so are looking forward to follow ups.
