What's on this weekend? Plan your family weekend with the kids with our round up of what's on in London
2nd – 3rd June 2018
We have heaps and heaps of inspiration for things to do in London this weekend. The following events are all a&u recommended and should be on any parents' radar! Click on the headers and links for more info and to book:
Head to the Royal Institution this Saturday for a fab family fun day focusing on science fiction. You will have the chance to get hands on with the exciting science behind Frankenstein, Star Wars, Doctor Who and more. Children can have a go at building a space colony using mathematical knowledge, learn how to (almost) make gold with chemistry, and explore strange superpowers like invisibility and magnetic strength. Saturday, 2nd June. 11am–4pm. Suitable for ages 6–12. Tickets: £16, £10.
The old Toy Kingdom evokes a bit of a nostalgia-fest for us. We are old enough to remember when you used to go to Harrods and beg your mum to buy you a guinea pig from the pet department. The puppies and rabbits are long gone but at least we had the soft toy equivalent in what was surely the best cuddly toy display in the world. Well, we haven't been yet so we don't know if the teddies have survived but Harrods re-opened its brand new-look Toy Department on the fourth floor yesterday. Head over and see for yourself. There is a special Unicorns & Dragons event this weekend.
Aspiring theatre-makers can spend a full day at Unicorn Theatre devising, developing and staging a piece of work that they have created together. The theme of the workshop is rules that explores questions such as 'Are all rules fair? What rules would you like to change? What rules of theatre could you break too?' Recommended for ages 8–12. Only a few tickets left!
A free, family-friendly dragon boat racing is taking place this Sunday at London's Regatta Centre. More than 40 clubs (amateur and professional) will be competing in this exciting cross-cultural event. On land, a South East Asian Food Festival will be on as well with live music, martial arts displays, traditional Chinese lion dancing and a raffle draw. Starts at 10am.
It is all about bacteria this weekend at the Science Museum! Kids can find out what’s inside these incredible tiny creatures by building their own bacteria bauble at this drop-in workshop. Free activity. Perfect for ages 5+.
