We have heaps and heaps of inspiration for things to do in London this weekend. The following events are all a&u recommended and should be on any parents' radar! Click on the headers and links for more info and to book:
Head to Battersea Power Station this weekend for a great family festival that is all about seafood! Children can decorate sea-themed biscuits and make their own shell necklaces. Miss Ballooniverse will be making sea creatures out of balloons and Bubble Inc will be creating magical bubbles. There will also be face painting, musical performances and you can snap photos with St Ives mermaids and try some delicious food of course! 20–24 June.
A fun-packed exhibition is opening this Friday (22nd June) exploring the works of illustrator and author Nick Sharratt. Families can learn more about Nick's childhood, visit the recreation of his studio and try their hand at drawing some of his characters using a light box. Kids can also play dress up and put on some funny costumes. 22 June – 16 September.
Inspired by Matthew Bourne's Cinderella, New Adventures' artists will be performing a pop-up dance piece this Saturday at the IWM London. Alternating with these dance performances will be conversations with eyewitnesses, who will share their experiences of being evacuated as a young child during the Second World War. You can catch the dance performances at 11am, 12pm, 1.30pm and 3pm. The Meet an evacuee events will be on at 11.30am-1pm and 2pm-3.30pm. Some stand by tickets are also available for the dance workshops where families can learn a choreography from Matthew Bourne's Cinderella.
Join in for a weekend of nature explorations at Wimbledon and Putney Commons. On Saturday, you can go on a Butterfly or a Dragonfly Walk. There will be a main reptile event on Sunday where families can learn more about rescuing reptiles and brave kids can handle some incredible snakes. The Wimbledon Common Nature Club will be providing children's activities throughout the whole weekend in a dedicated Children's Area. 22–24 June.
Kickstart your summer with a huge family get together and picnic at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park this Sunday. Expect music and dance from around the world, along with a variety of family-friendly activities. Catch Hip Hop Dance and Rap performances or take part in a story-telling session with the Discover Children's Story Centre, including author Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. There will be plenty of sports activities, face painting, arts and crafts, food stalls and more. 24 June, 12–6pm.
Celebrate the end of Ramadan with thousands of Londoners and visitors this Saturday at Trafalgar Square. Listen to great musical performances, browse the numerous stalls and enjoy a great array of food and drinks. Saturday, 23 June. 12–6pm.
