Ludwig Bemelmans: Sketches for Madeline
A display of work by Ludwig Bemelmans – the first ever in the UK – that shows his sketches for Madeline; the picture book series that has sold over 14 million copies since its publication in 1939.
It is a tiny show - only one room - but is packed with Madeline magic. Children who can read confidently will get the most out of seeing the marking and revisions to rhyming text, stuck as little ticker tapes of text onto the illustrated pages that dance with life of our feisty heroine.
A behind-the-scenes delight.
