Having decided The Renaissance Nude show is definitely one to go to without the kids [Christianity has a lot to answer for when it comes to self-flagellation, guilt, morbidity, fear], we wandered through the subterranean walkway that connects the Piccadilly side of Burlington House to Burlington Gardens. The free installations and work of the RA Schools have settled into this newly opened space (part of the RA's 250 year anniversary last year), and it feels bright, buzzy and unstuffy. Special mention to Clara Hastrup's revolving cactus, surrounded by microphones that pick up the noise of its prickles as it turns.

Have a quick look into the rooms of Pace Gallery to see William Monk's 'A Fool Through the Cloud' before climbing the sweeping stone staircase to the Phyllida Barlow Cul-de-sac. The first piece fills an alcove as you come up. A collection of giant pencils/paint brushes/spillikins they will instantly speak to children.

The exhibition itself is made up of three rooms, each filled with enormous pieces made from everyday, industrial materials. The relationship between the sculptures, the space and us the viewer is key to Barlow's work and children will enjoy viewing them from all sides.

It is as though a giant has taken their magical camp from under the kitchen table, their loo roll sculptures from nursery and blown them up to inhabit these glorious, light-filled galleries. A joy. Hurrah!
