Visit the The Golden Hinde
One of the most famous Tudor galleons of its day, The Golden Hinde was best known for her circumnavigation of the globe between 1577 and 1580 captained by Sir Francis Drake. The original ship was preserved as a museum and by the mid-17th century she had rotted and was broken up. A full-size reconstruction of the ship The Golden Hinde was built by traditional methods Devon and launched in 1973. She sailed more than 140,000 miles (225,000 km), in fact much further than the original ship and since 1996 she has been berthed at St Mary Overie Dock in Bankside, Southward, London.
